J.S. Bach and the Cello: Influenced and Influencer

Our Workshop faculty present a closing concert of works by Bach, as well as works that show some of his influences as well as some pieces that show his influence on others.

You will see and hear baroque specialists Phoebe Carrai, Jennifer Morsches and  Elinor Frey play cello works by Girolamo Frescobaldi, Antonio Vivaldi and Friedrich August Kummer in addition to Joahn Sebasian Bach.  Our Artistic Director, Matt Haimovitz is introducing some newly commissioned works by contemporary compers, David T. Little, Juri Seo and Vijay Iyer.  He will also play the prelude and fugue from Bach's cello suite number five.

Each of the performers will tell about why the selected these pieces for the concert and will reflect on Bach's immense influence on music in the past and today.
