Special Guest at Workshop

We are very pleased to announce that cellist Melora Creager will appear as a special guest performer/lecturer at Bach Cello Suites Workshop the evening of Wednesday, August 16.

Uploaded Image: /uploads/Melora.jpgYou may know Melora as the founder of the seminal New York City cello rock band Rasputina. (click here for a Rasputina video  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVsF2whuzIM )

What you may not know is that behind Melora's Victorian corsets and bloomers, her steam-punk aesthetic and proto-feminist punk sensibility is the small town girl from Emporia, Kansas who has always kept a special place in her heart for the Bach Cello Suites.

"The Bach Cello Suites are monumental, and they are deeply personal to me," Melora said when we sat down with her recently to plan her Bach Cello Suites Workshop appearance.
Melora said that when she was in junior high her cello teacher -- "a really tough teacher from back East" -- told her she was not yet ready to study the Bach Cello Suites. So she snuck off to Kansas City, bought an edition of the Suites and began practicing them intensively at home without telling him.
Melora will join us at BCSW shortly after coming off a nine city Rasputina tour that takes the band from Brooklyn to Chicago.
We know that Melora will bring something unique, thoughtful, exciting and inspirational to all of us at BCSW. She will open doors for us that reveal new views of the vast landscape of the Bach Cello Suites.
